August 2012

Guest Speaker for August 12, 2012 was Dr. Dennis Osborne, Supervisor of IPM and Water Quality with Wake County School System.

Dr. Osborne talked about the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) policy that Wake County has adopted for managing insect and rodent intruders in our schools. IPM is a holistic, preventive approach to managing such pests and minimizes the use of pesticides in our schools and on our school grounds. He also discussed information about  management of pest habitats. Dr. Osborne’s work has enabled Wake County to become the first school system in NC to achieve this very “green” level of pest management.
